FFXIV Stormblood: Where and How To Unlock FFXIV Red Mage
FFXIV Red Mage is an exciting new long-range caster class added in Final Fantasy XIV’s second major expansion, Stormblood. The Red Mage combines White and Black magic to form a powerful attack and combines all of this with melee attacks as well. However, before we dive deeper into how the Red Witch works, let’s first explain how to open it.
First, you need to be at least level 50 in the Disciple of War or Magic class and of course have access to the Stormblood expansion. The quest provider is Distraught Lass found in Steps of Thal in Ul’Dah at x’14, y’11 and the name of the quest is “Taking the Red”.
After that, teleport to the Black Brush Station and proceed to the search marker, preferably through some sort of mount to speed up. Once there, speak to the Well-Dressed Lass who is around the Red Mage NPC. After watching the rather nasty donkey cutscene, talk to the Traveler in red then head back to where you found the original quest that gave the NPCs in Steps of Thal. After that, head back one more time to the Black Brush Station, and then to Coffer & Coffin only a stone’s throw away. Talk to X’rhun Tia twice to complete the mission and unlock the Red Witch’s soul crystal. Congratulations! You have unlocked the Red Mage in FFXIV along with the Rapier Mitrit and Chest of Red Clothes. For some tips to get you started if you really don’t know how to play, continue on to page two.
FFXIV Stormblood: How to Play as a Red Mage – Basic Beginner Tips for Starting Out
FFXIV Red Mage is a long-range caster that can use Black and White magic, as well as a melee weapon. Being an effective Red Mage means balancing these three attacks. When you attack with White and Black magic spells, you will respectfully collect white and black mana. As a Red Mage, you have to think about the Balance Meter which shows how much black and white you have collected. You don’t want to overdo it otherwise you will make it difficult to accumulate whatever you have right now. You want white and black mana as close as possible, which ultimately builds up the critical mass of both of them which will strengthen your melee weapon skills like Riposte, Zwerchhau, and Redoublement.
The final game meta was still being finalized at the time of this guide, so advanced rotations are still being sought. But to get you started, maintain a healthy rotation of black and white magic attacks (along with keeping your DoT spells as much as possible). One of your skills, Jolt, can increase Black and White magic in small amounts too, so don’t forget to use it. Once you’ve built 25-30+ of both mana types, make sure you remember to take advantage of your much stronger melee weapon skills in these circumstances.
One of the important features to note that you will have at the start of the Red Mage level is Dualcast, which allows the direct use of other spells while casting spells. What you have to throw after this will depend on the situation, but in general, think of it as an opportunity to balance your black and white mana by following up on one another.
That’s done for how to unlock FFXIV Red Mage along with some beginner tips to get you started. Good luck
