In addition to WhatsApp Web, there are other options for using the app on your Windows or Mac.
With more than 1.5 billion users worldwide and hundreds of millions in Brazil, WhatsApp allows us to chat with anyone who has a cell phone number, from anywhere connected. You can even use WhatsApp on your PC.

I bet you spend hours of your day on WhatsApp – and many of them are out of necessity. But sometimes it is not comfortable to always be on the cell phone, and it is good to have access to your chats on the computer with a keyboard mouse. Before WhatsApp had a web-based version, no alternative worked very well. Let’s get to the tips.
WhatsApp on PC (Web)
There are requirements for using WhatsApp Web on your PC. On this page , WhatsApp details the activation process specific to all platforms that are supported. On most mobile devices, just go to Menu> WhatsApp Web.
Then, just click on the (+) button and the phone’s camera will open and enter web.whatsapp.com in one of the supported browsers. Point the smartphone camera at the screen, so that it is possible to scan the code ( QR Code ) and connect the two devices (cell phone and PC) by pairing.
How to use WhatsApp on PC
- Open WhatsApp Dekstop or visit web.whatsapp.com in your browser;
- Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen;
To do this, open WhatsApp on your phone:
– Android : in the Conversations tab > Menu> WhatsApp Web .
– iPhone: go to Settings> WhatsApp Web .
– Windows Phone: go to Menu> WhatsApp Web.
- After scanning the QR code, you will see a screen that is mirroring WhatsApp on the PC.
It is important to note that WhatsApp Web only works with the following browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera Browser, Safari, or Microsoft Edge. However, WhatsApp recommends using Chrome, Firefox, or Opera to send voice messages and capture photos directly in the browser for compatibility.
How does WhatsApp on PC work?
The WhatsApp interface on the PC is not a separate version of your phone. The service defines the feature as an “extension of your WhatsApp account to the computer” and your mobile device needs to have a good connection and cannot be without a battery. If there is a problem with your phone, WhatsApp Web will no longer work on the computer even if the two devices are paired.
In fact, it is recommended that you use WhatsApp Web on your computer only on Wi-Fi connections, as data is spent to synchronize the contents of your phone with your computer, which is done practically every second (or whenever you receive or send something in the WhatsApp app).
WhatsApp Web must be seen as a palliative measure. Your messages are not yet synchronized in the cloud or on the WhatsApp server, as with Telegram, so the dependence on the cell phone is still total. At least you no longer need to type or send everything through it.
After all, WhatsApp Web will always reflect the information on your phone. This is not another account. It’s basically what’s on your phone, only mirrored and accessible on your PC. So much so that any message sent will also appear on your cell phone. Well, at least it works.
BetterChat for WhatsApp (OS X)
If you can’t organize yourself with a WhatsApp tab on your computer, or want more native solutions, there are options. For OS X, I found BetterChat for WhatsApp, which is available for $ 1 on the Mac App Store and does basically the same thing as WhatsApp Web.
Why is he better? I see BetterChat for WhatsApp as an interesting alternative because it is, in fact, a native application for OS X, which works mainly over the WhatsApp Web page. However, it is able to take some information and mirror it on OS X.
For example, notifications merge with the platform’s native ones, so you can reply to any message directly from the notification. In addition, when you have new messages, they appear with that red bubble in your dock, making it easier to organize with other messaging applications.
You still have access to some settings, such as a shortcut to hide/show the app, customize alerts, change the wallpaper or font size and even activate a nice night mode, which makes everything in shades of black in contrast to ordinary white WhatsApp Web.
In addition to BetterChat for WhatsApp, OS X has other very similar alternatives for using WhatsApp on the Mac, such as App for WhatsApp ($ 1.99), DesktopApp for WhatsApp (free), ChitChat (free) or WhatsApp for Desktop (free), which is more detailed below.

WhatsApp for Desktop (Windows/OS X/Linux)
For Windows, there is also a similar alternative. I present to you WhatsApp for Desktop, which also works with OS X and Linux. It also pretends to be a browser to use WhatsApp Web but brings the same perks as a desktop application. And the best: it’s free!
As in the web version, it allows you to send photos, videos, locations, and voice messages. On Windows and OS X, the number of messages appears on the dock or taskbar, in addition to having an icon there for easy access. The software can also be configured to start with the system. On all platforms, WhatsApp Desktop offers native on-screen notifications.
From my tests, it looks like a pretty cool alternative. The icon is not similar to WhatsApp for legal reasons (which can upset a lot of people), but … it works. To download, just click on your platform (direct download): Windows (28.1 MB), OS X (36.6 MB) and Linux ( 32 bits , 38.3 MB) / Linux ( 64 bits , 36.5 MB ).
If you are a developer, know that WhatsApp for Desktop is an open-source project and has its page on GitHub. There, you have access to all files, release notes, and documentation for the tool, as well as for instructions for installing on a server. Worth checking out.
Alternatives to using WhatsApp on PC
It is also possible to emulate the WhatsApp application on the computer with Android emulators such as BlueStacks or extensions for Chrome, but the process is somewhat uncertain. The application may stop operating, become unstable, or not work as it should. For now, the best way is still to depend on the official WhatsApp alternative (and its variations and updates).
